My 2007 Christmas Project for the homeless.

For me, 2007 was a very difficult year as I had lost my dear husband of 28 years to lung cancer
and as I was trying to breathe life into him he died in front of me.

He was always supportive of my homeless projects and was my true inspiration. And before he died he made me promise to continue to do what I love best and that is to help someone in need and I have kept my promise and always will.

My 2007 project was in dedication to his memory and I know he was looking down at me and smiling "go girl".

I started collecting brand new items of travel size toiletries and had my friends and local businesses in my Community do the same.

My goal was to put together 300 gift bags each filled with about $30 of products and other assorted items and to hand these out at the Union Gospel Missions annual Christmas Dinner in December 2007.

I personally coloured each bag individually and decorated them with matching coloured ribbons and Christmas gift tags. It took me about 2 months just to colour each bag by hand as I did a few every night while sipping on a cup or two of tea.

I asked some of my friends to join me in a work party and we filled some of the bags with the toiletries and the rest I completed on my own.

Thank goodness the Mission offered to come and pick up the bags with their van as I had 27 extra large bags full.

Here are some pictures of my 2007 project.

It only takes one person to make a difference in someone's life. When I took on my personal projects for the homeless in the late fall of 2005 I had absolutely no idea where to start but I worked my way through it a little every day and I "just did it". So, if I can do it anybody can trust me. All you have to do is want to do something and the rest will happen.

We all have that something special deep inside us and until we reach deep within ourselves we will never know what we are all capable of until we try will we?
